With the option to choose your layers and matching envelopes all on one page, and with Word templates and printing instructions available for each, unique layered holiday cards are made easy and convenient. If you are interested in making your own layered ensembles, read the following instructions to learn just how easy and convenient it is.

1. Choose an envelope and backer card

To ensure you do not design a card that has no envelope to accommodate it, it is important to choose an envelope and backer card first. To make it easy, backer cards and their corresponding envelopes are available on the same page.

Begin by navigating to blank cards by size.

  • Scroll down the page to view all blank card sizes, and select a size for your backer card by clicking on the corresponding graphic.

Tip: For the most layering and color options, 6 inch square and 6 1/4 inch square backer cards work best.

  • Select a backer card: Filter by brand, finish, and/or color to select your preferred backer card.

  • Select an Envelope: After you select a card, scroll down to view a matching, correctly sized envelope for that card. If you do not want to use this envelope, you may filter by brand and color to select the envelope you prefer.

2. Choose a smaller printable layer *

After choosing a backer card and an envelope to accommodate it, you are ready to choose a printable layer.

  • To choose your smaller printable layer, navigate back to the blank cards by size page, as linked to above.
  • Filter by brand, finish, and/or color to select your preferred printable layer.

Tip: There is no standard guideline for the ratio of backing card to printable layer. The size of the printable layer you choose is a matter of preference; depending on the size of the border you want around your printable layer. See examples of border sizes below.

3. Download Word template & instructions, then print

Now that you have all of your invitation components, you are ready to download a Word template for the printable layer you have chosen.

  • Download the Word template and printing instructions for your printable layer on its product page, as shown to the right.
  • Open the template in Word, and change the sample wording to your own holiday invitation wording.
  • Follow the downloaded instructions to print.

4. Assemble your invitation layers

Tip: Experiment with the placement of your top layer, trying it in the center, off center, or angled to find a look you like.

5. Embellish, if you’d like

You may choose to leave your finished card as is, or embellish it with satin or chiffon ribbon.
