How do I determine the proper envelope size for my invitations?

It is a good rule of thumb to choose an envelope that is 1/8 to 1/4 inch larger than your invitation card. This will allow your invitation to fit in your envelope easily without allowing too much wiggle room. For more information, please view the following video:

What is the most popular invitation envelope size?

Though there is no most popular wedding envelope size, the following two are certainly up there!

That being said, LCI offers an extensive variety of standard and not so standard envelope sizes to house your invitations, so the choice is yours. However, we highly recommend that whatever size you choose, that you choose it first. This way you can be sure that there is a suitable mailing envelope available for your invitations before you design them.

What size envelope is the most economical to mail?

The price of postage varies with the shape and size of your envelope as well as the weight of invitation ensemble. A general rule of thumb is to avoid unusually shaped envelopes and to keep the weight of your invitation low. For more tips, view the following video:

Do you sell 5×7 envelopes? I don’t see the size listed.

We do not sell 5×7 envelopes, exactly. It is common for customers ask for 5×7 envelopes for 5×7 cards, but what they really need is a slightly larger 5 1/4 x 7 1/4 (A7) envelope. This size we do sell.

If my invitation is very thick do I need a larger envelope?

The more you put into an invitation envelope, the more the sides bow out, and the less accommodating the envelope becomes. Envelopes are made to accommodate all of the extra cards and embellishments that are often included in invitations, so in most cases you can choose an envelope that is just 1/8 to 1/4 inch larger than your largest card.

What is the smallest size RSVP envelope that the post office will accept/send?

The most common response envelope size, and the smallest accepted by the United States Postal Service is (A1) 3 5/8 x 5 1/8.

I would like to make an invitation that fits into an A10 envelope. Do you offer A10 cards or do they have to be custom cut?

A10 invitation envelope and card sizes are less common than A9. Although we carry a limited selection of A10 envelopes, we do not carry any A10 cards (5 7/8 x 9 1/4). You could order (A9) 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 cards or take advantage of our custom card cutting services. Please get in touch with us for details and pricing.

Do you offer traditional inner & outer wedding envelopes for 5×7 cards?

Yes, we offer a couple of double wedding envelope options for 5×7 invitations including:

  • Euro flap: Pair Euro flap A7 envelopes with Euro flap A7.5 outer envelopes
  • Traditional pointed flap: On our Double Wedding Envelopes page, under Select Size, choose Inner Envelope 5 5/16 x 7 5/8 Outer Envelope 5 7/16 x 7 7/8.
