Step One: Download Template
Download the 2-Up Tairei printing template file below and open it in Microsoft Word.
Step Two: Replace Wording
Replace the placeholder text with your own invitation or announcement wording. For sample invitation wording for all events, see our Invitation Wording page. Choose a font typestyle, color, and size for your wording. Before printing, ensure that both copies of the wording in the left and right boxes of the template are exactly the same.
Step Three: Print Tairei Paper
Place a blank 8 1/2 x 11 test sheet into the printer tray. Go to File, Print... and click Ok to print a test sheet. If the test sheet prints correctly, then place your Tairei sheets in the printer tray and continue printing.
If the text is misaligned on the test printout, you may need to adjust the margins of the invitation squares. To do this, enable the Ruler feature in Word (if not already showing) by going to View and choosing Ruler. Then select the invitation text and drag the bottom part of the ruler-slide to the right or left to move the text (as shown below).
Step Four: Cut Out Tairei Layers
Cut the two printed invitations out of the Tairei sheet using the dotted lines as your guide. You should end up with two identical Tairei invitation layers measuring 4 x 6 inches.
Step Five: Cut Out Chiyogami Layers
Cut the 8 1/2 x 11 chiyogami sheets into 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch rectangles. You can fit two of these layers per sheet.
Step Six: Secure Layers Together On Pocket Card
Using double stick tape dots, vellum tape, a glue stick or glue marker, secure the chiyogami layer onto the back of the pocket card. Make sure there is an even border showing on all sides. Then secure the Tairei layer on top of the chiyogami layer.
Finished Pocket Card
And...you're done! The finished invitation should resemble the one below. Pair with a matching colored envelope. Informal cards can be placed in the pocket on the other side of the invitation.
