Eco-Friendly Paper Terms Explained
This is a companion to Will Collins' Eco-Friendly Recycled Paper, Envelopes, Invitations, Programs article in which he wrote about LCI's specialty papers, invitations, envelopes, and vellum that are manufactured with renewable electricity and a wide variety of other eco-friendly production methods and practices.
Here is an explanation of the logos and terms that apply to LCI's PC100 lines of radiant white card stocks and envelopes that are produced with Monadnock Paper Mills' 100% recycled paper.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification assures that 100% post consumer recycled fiber was used to make this paper.
Additionally, the PC100 lines address a full range of environmental concerns that our customers will appreciate.
"Manufactured Carbon Neutral" - Monadnock purchases Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) on the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) to offset manufacturing emissions. In addition to carbon offsets, Monadnock has reduced its emissions by more than 40% in the past decade through clean on-site hydroelectric power generation and conservation.
The paper is manufactured with "Green-e Certified Renewable Energy." For further reading on impact reduction, visit Green-e's site.
"Manufactured with Wind Power" - Monadnock purchases Green-e certified Wind Power Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to support the development of new wind-powered renewable energy generation. Wind power consumes no fuel for continuing operation, and has no emissions directly related to electricity production. Operation does not produce carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, mercury, particulates, or any other type of air pollution, as do fossil fuel power sources.
"Process Chlorine Free" - No chlorine or chlorine derivatives are used in the manufacturing of these products.
"Hydroelectric Power" produces no waste or carbon dioxide (CO2), a greenhouse gas.
Furthermore, "Responsibly Sourced Fiber" certifies that all pulp is derived from sustainable sources and that proper forestry management practices have been used.
