The paper it self was great, I had a little trouble trying to print it out on my home printer, when using a HP photosmart printer it would not accept the paper size. Then I tried to Use a HP Laser Jet the ink kept smearing on he paper as it was released from the printer, I then went to Staples, they were not able to print the invitations in color the paper size would not accept for them. They were able to print in Black ink which came out great because the picture I was using was from my wedding and it was done in black and white. Do like I did and order extra's so you will not use up your order trying to get it to print properly.

How To Use Our Word Templates

1. Download Template
Download the templates above and save them to your hard drive.

2. Open Template
Open Microsoft Word, or any word processor capable of reading DOC files. Open the template by going to File, Open... and browsing to the location where you saved the template files.

3. Enter Custom Text
Each scored panel of the Seal & Send appears in Word has its own Text Box where you can type your custom invitation text or other information, replacing the placeholder text.

4. Create A New Custom Paper Size
When you are ready to print, go to File, Print... and click on the Properties button in the top righthand corner of the Print window.

Click on the Paper/Quality tab. (Please note that your printer dialog box may look slightly different. Just look for similar options in your Print Properties window).

Under Paper Options, notice where it displays Size: and the dimensions of the paper as an option in the dropdown menu. The default paper size is Letter, or 8 ˝ x 11. Click on the Custom... button underneath the dropdown menu in order to specify the exact size of your Seal & Send invitation. A window will pop up to create a new custom size. Enter in a name for your new custom size in the Name field (“Seal & Send”, for example). Below this field, enter the width and length of the Seal & Send invitation in inches. Set the width to 5.75 inches and the length to 14 inches**.

Click the Save button.

Click the OK button on the previous window (the Document Properties window) and then click the Cancel button on the Print window. These windows need to be closed to ensure that the custom paper size is saved properly and can be used for this template (see Step Five).

** The actual length of the Seal & Send Invitation is 14.5 inches. However, most printers will not accept dimensions longer than legal size paper (14 inches). Setting the length to 14 inches in the printer settings eliminates this problem, and the extra half inch of the actual invitation (not the template) is unprinted. You can use this space as a nice margin at the bottom of the perforated response card.

5. Set Custom Paper Size
Return to the paper size options in the Print Properties by going to File, Print... Click the Properties button on the Print window, and go to the Paper/Quality tab. The custom paper size you saved previously is now an option on the dropdown menu. Left-click the arrow to the right of the dropdown menu, browse the list and select your custom paper size by the Name you specified in Step Four. Click the OK button, returning you to the Print window. Now that the printer is aware of the size of the invitation in the paper tray, you are ready to print.

6. Print Document
We recommend printing a test on a piece of paper cut to the same dimensions as your unfolded Seal & Send Invitation. When the test invitation is printed, overlay it on a blank Seal & Send Invitation to make sure the text lines up correctly within each scored panel. When everything is aligned, put your blank Seal & Send invitations in the printer’s paper tray and print as many copies as you need. You may want to print the invitations in quantities of 25 at a time, just in case the printer ink runs low or the paper feed rollers begin to leave smudges on the invitations.

Why does the ink smudge?

Smudging on invitation card stock can usually be contributed to the type of paper card stock, the type of ink and the printing process.
  • Some common printing processes are inkjet, laser printing, offset, and letterpress. Some card stocks and papers perform better when inkjet printed while others do better with laser technology. On each of our product pages we do indicate our recommendations. The more conventional print methods such as offset or thermograpy should not have smudging issues.
  • Different Inks and toners are made differently from manufacturer to manufacturer therefore some may require more drying time than others. We do suggest using the ink brands recommended by your printer manufacturer.

My PC will not print templates opened by Microsoft Office. Can I print them another way?

If you don't have Microsoft Word installed on your PC, you can use OpenOffice.org, a free, open-source office suite that includes Writer, a program that can open our Word templates. Here is some more information on alternative programs to print invitations

Should I have my invitations hand canceled?

After you spend time creating your own invitations, you want to ensure they arrive at your guests homes looking as great as they did leaving yours. So how do you guarantee your invitations will arrive in great condition? Next to hand delivery, your best bet for protecting your invitations against the potential rigors of mailing - marking, bending, and tearing - is to request that your invitations are hand canceled.

What does "hand cancel" mean?

Cancellation refers to the markings that the postal service puts on stamped mail to prevent the stamps from being re-used; in current times, this marking is typically created by automated high speed machinery, and most often is a large, red, rectangular stamp. While these machines are quick and convenient, mail that goes through them run the risk of being bent, marked up, and even torn - risks you do not want to take with formal invitations.

Hand canceling, as the names implies, means that each invitation will be post marked by hand, not machinery, thus eliminating the aforementioned risk factors - and the aforementioned unattractive red stamp.

How do I get my invitations hand canceled?

After completing your invitations, bring your finished ensemble into your local post office and simply request that they are hand canceled. Most (not all) post offices will have no problem with this, as it is common practice with formal mail. Depending on your local branch, be prepared to be asked to stamp your own invitations, or told that they can be hand canceled on another day.

Additional tips for safe invitation arrival

Always check with your local post office about the cost of postage prior to mailing. Keep in mind that square invitation envelopes will cost more to send, and mail that weighs over one ounce will also have a surcharge. So check fist and eliminate the Return to Sender stamped across your invitation envelopes.

Consider sending a test invitation to yourself and/or a friend or relative who lives far away. Simply bring a finished ensemble to the post office, determine the appropriate postage, request that it is hand canceled, and see how it arrives. Of course if it arrives safely and free or markings, bends, or tears, you can feel more confident in sending the rest out to your guests.

How do we determine if our Invitations will require standard postage?

It is recommended that a sample of a completed invitation with all of its enclosures be brought to the post office for a clerk to actually weigh. Please note: The weight of an invitation is not the only variable that determines the postage due on your invitations. The overall dimensions of the outer envelope, although within standard weight requirements, may require additional postage. For example all square invitation envelopes mailed in the USA, regardless of weight, will require extra postage. So, it is always suggested to let the post office see the invitation ensemble before affixing postage.
